(Photos): 2016 Volvo V90 leaks
This vehicle is expected to make an official debut on February 18 in Stockholm, Sweden and according to Auto Car, the official images were published on social media. Images of the new model had already been leaked late last year, when pictures of a scale model of the car appeared online.
Earlier this year, the rear of the car was also caught undisguised in a Swedish garage.
These latest pictures confirm that the V90 will take styling inspiration from the Volvo Concept Estate revealed at the 2014 Geneva motor show, particularly with the design of its distinctive tail-lights. The front end, meanwhile, closely resembles that of the S90.
The V90 will be built on the Swedish manufacturer's SPA platform and is expected to use the same range of powerplants as the XC90, including the 394bhp T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid and the D4 and D5 diesel engines.
An official launch date has not yet been confirmed, but the V90 is set to go on sale in the UK in the second half of this year. A sporty Volvo V90 Polestar, tuned by the company's competition arm, is also likely later in the car's life cycle.
Although there are no pictures of the interior, it’s expected to mirror the S90's plush appointments.
Rivals for the V90 include the BMW 5 Series Touring, Jaguar XF Sportbrake, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate and the next-generation Audi A6 Avant.
